McDonald's says Feb. sales rose 7.5 percent

NEW YORK (AP) ? McDonald's Corp. says a key global revenue figure climbed 7.5 percent in February as it benefitted from an extra day in the Leap Year and new menu items like the Chicken McBites. U.S. growth outpaced that in Europe and Asia.

The world's biggest hamburger chain says its strongest results were in the United States, where revenue in restaurants open at least 13 months rose 11.1 percent. The metric increased by 4 percent in Europe and by 2.4 percent in the Asia, the Middle East and Africa region.

Revenue in restaurants open at least 13 months is a key measure of a restaurant chain's performance because it excludes the impact of recently opened or closed stores.

The figures are a snapshot of money spent on food at both company-owned and franchised restaurants. They do not reflect corporate revenue.
